Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The MLA Gopal Bharagav in the Assembly raised the issue of the situation arising out of the ‘continuously decreasing ground water level and continuous destruction of traditional water harvesting structures in the country’.
The MLA urged the government to constitute a committee to monitor the works of water conservation. Bhargava while raising the issue stated that people were extracting surface and ground water to such an extent that during summers in the month of May and June, water rationing begins in many places.
The BJP legislator, however, said that the government was running several schemes to conserve water and also mega projects of water bodies. Currently 15 departments are working for Jal Ganga Abhiyan, but all these departments are working at their will and there is no coordination, said the BJP MLA.
