Cannes 2025 has officially kicked off with its usual dose of glamour, glitz, and eyebrow-raising fashion moments. And making sure all eyes were on her, Urvashi Rautela returned to the prestigious red carpet with yet another bold sartorial statement. Known for her over-the-top fashion choices, the actress added drama this year with a look that quickly lit up social media, for better or worse.
Decoding Urvashi's Cannes 2025 Day 1 look
Urvashi walked the red carpet in a custom creation by Dubai-based designer Michael Cinco. The strapless, structured gown featured vivid shades of blue, yellow, and crimson. With its heavily embellished surface and architectural silhouette, the dress was anything but subtle. And if that wasn’t enough, it featured a long tulle train that followed her down the carpet like a technicolour shadow.
The price tag? Reportedly, over $4.8 million, making it even more expensive than Kim Kardashian's iconic 2022 Met Gala look. But the drama didn’t end there.
Parrot clutch that stole the show
While her gown made headlines, it was her accessory that truly caught the internet’s attention. Urvashi carried a parrot-shaped clutch, dripping in crystals and sparkle. The clutch, designed by Judith Leiber, retails for a jaw-dropping $5,495 (approximately ₹4.68 lakh), as per Diet Sabya. Styled in the shape of a vibrant parrot, it was meant to be whimsical and high-fashion but quickly became meme material online.
To complement her high-drama ensemble, Urvashi added a matching crystal-studded tiara, embracing full fantasy mode. Her makeup, however, divided opinions.

She opted for a metallic purple and blue eyeshadow look, dramatic winged eyeliner, and rhinestone detailing, an approach that many found overwhelming. Her cheeks were dusted with heavy blush, lips glossed in a candy-pink hue, and her voluminous blonde curls were styled to fall in loose waves.

Internet reacts
While the actress undoubtedly made a splash, her look didn’t exactly earn universal applause. Social media was quick to critique the “tacky” execution, with fashion watchdog pages and users delivering savage one-liners and memes. Though some praised her boldness and commitment to couture, others found the ensemble chaotic and overstyled.
