World Asthma Day 2025: Asthma is a lung disease that causes inflammation in the airways (windpipe). Swollen airways can cause difficulty breathing, chest tightness, coughing, and wheezing. It is usually treated with inhalers and other medicines, but developments in its investigation and medical practice in the last several years have made its treatment easier.

If there is severe category asthma, then regular asthma medicines may have to be taken to reduce inflammation in the airways. Regular medicines or inhalers are usually used in asthma. But now therapies like biologics and bronchial thermoplasty have made the treatment of moderate to severe asthma easier.
What is biologics therapy?
Biologics therapy treats asthma by inhibiting cells or blocking molecules that cause inflammation in the airways after exposure to certain triggers. Trigger exposure causes molecules in the immune system to work together to cause inflammation in the airways.
Biologics bind to these molecules and prevent them from causing inflammation and symptoms. Doctors decide whether biologics therapy will be helpful in the treatment of asthma by looking at the symptoms, the type of medication being taken, and the results of blood tests.
Biologics are given under the skin, in intramuscular injections, and IV infusions. However, in some rare cases, people may also have allergic problems.
Bronchial thermoplasty therapy
Bronchial thermoplasty therapy uses heat to reduce excess muscles around the air passages. This makes breathing easier and may reduce asthma attacks. This therapy can help treat severe asthma.
Breathing will be easier.
Many patients are unable to control asthma despite inhaler therapy. Biologics therapy or bronchial thermoplasty therapy is used in severe cases of asthma. Both of these therapies are new.
Biologics therapy works by targeting various antibodies, cells, or molecules that cause asthma.
It improves lung function by reducing asthma symptoms.
On the other hand, bronchial thermoplasty therapy uses heat to reduce excess muscles around the airways.
This makes breathing easier and reduces asthma attacks.

Take care of your diet and lifestyle too.
Processed foods, fast food, chips, and packaged snacks contain artificial preservatives, which can increase asthma symptoms. Dairy products, such as milk, cheese and yogurt can increase mucus in some people. Therefore, talk to a doctor about what your diet should be like.
Alcohol can also trigger an asthma attack. Processed meat, canned soup, and salty snacks can increase inflammation.
Acidic foods, such as tomatoes, citrus fruits can worsen asthma symptoms.
Ice cream, cold beverages and other cold items can cause bronchial spasms in some asthma sufferers.
Asthma patients should avoid consuming these things.
