In a recent turn of weather, Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are receiving heavy rainfall as of Wednesday evening. The rainfall, accompanied with thunder and lightning, has led to a waterlog situation in many parts of the city. It was a sudden downpour that has also disrupted traffic adding to the challenges of daily commuters.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued an orange alert, which means moderate to heavy rain in some parts of the capital is expected.
However, the rain has brought the much-needed relief to the Delhi NCR. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 35°C, with the minimum likely to touch 24°C, offering a quick respite from current heat waves. Despite the relief, humidity levels remained high—touching 81% at 8:30 AM today and easing slightly to 58% by 5:30 PM.
However, the current rain spell has helped maintain satisfactory air quality across Delhi. As of 4 PM, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 81, placing it firmly in the 'satisfactory' category, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Understanding CPCB standards:
0–50: Good
51–100: Satisfactory
101–200: Moderate
201–300: Poor
301–400: Very Poor
401–500: Severe
But the city has recorded AQI levels in the ‘satisfactory’ range for 14 consecutive days, which is a remarkable feat. It is actually a rare occurrence. In its latest advisory, the regional weather department has also forecast moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across Delhi and nearby regions.
In addition to Delhi, many other regions in and around NCR are also likely to receive moderate rainfall. These include, Rajaund, Panipat, Sonipat, Tosham, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Sohna, Rewari, Narnaul, and Nuh in Haryana, along with Bijnaur, Baghpat, Meerut, Modinagar, Pilakhua, Hapur, Bulandshahar, and Bhiwadi in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, residents in Delhi NCR and nearby regions are advised to keep checking local weather updates. They are also advised to avoid flood-prone routes, along with taking necessary precautions during this time.
Given the current monsoon rain situation, it is advised to keep yourself updated with the present rain situation and traffic conditions before stepping out.
