The India Meteorological Department ( IMD) has issued a warning for extremely heavy rainfall across several regions due to a deep depression over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh. The adverse weather conditions are expected to persist until September 18.

IMD Weather Alert: Detailed Regional Alerts
The IMD has predicted isolated extremely heavy rainfall in South Jharkhand on September 15. From September 15 to 17, Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh are expected to experience very heavy rainfall. West Madhya Pradesh will see similar conditions from September 17 to 18.

An orange alert is in place for Odisha, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh from September 15. Additional alerts are issued for Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura for September 15 and 16. Assam and Meghalaya are under alert from September 18 to 20.

Red and Orange Alerts
West Bengal and Odisha are under a red alert as of September 14 due to expected heavy downpours. Jharkhand has been placed under an orange alert, with widespread rain and potential flash floods anticipated.

The IMD has also issued a nowcast warning for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh due to a developing depression. A “well-marked low-pressure area” over northwest Uttar Pradesh is contributing to the severe weather, with heavy rainfall expected in Uttarakhand on September 14. The IMD has cautioned of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Uttarakhand and flash flood warnings for Himachal Pradesh, particularly in Shimla and Sirmour districts.

Fishermen Advisory and Wind Warnings
The IMD has advised fishermen to avoid the northern Bay of Bengal and the coasts of Bangladesh, West Bengal, and Odisha until the morning of September 16 due to expected rough sea conditions. Squally winds are forecasted with speeds of 45-55 km/h, gusting up to 50 km/h, over Gangetic West Bengal, including Kolkata, and nearby areas in North Odisha and Jharkhand from the night of September 14 until the morning of September 15.

North Chhattisgarh and neighboring regions of East Madhya Pradesh and Southeast Uttar Pradesh will experience winds of 40-50 km/h, with gusts up to 60 km/h, from the evening of September 15 through the evening of September 16.

IMD Forecast for Other Regions
In Northwest India, East Uttar Pradesh is expected to receive isolated heavy rains on September 16 and 17, while West Uttar Pradesh will see similar conditions on September 17. South India will experience scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep. Isolated to scattered rainfall is also expected in other regions throughout the week.

Delhi’s Weather Update
Delhi’s Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for September 14, forecasting cloudy skies with light rainfall and possible thundershowers. The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to be around 32°C, with a minimum of 21°C. The wet spell is likely to subside after September 14, with another round of rainfall anticipated starting September 18.
