When most families gather for dinner, the talk usually revolves around work updates, weekend plans, or what’s for dessert. But imagine being at a table where Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and their children sit together, now that’s a conversation worth hearing. Turns out, it’s not as dramatic as one might think, but it's definitely full of ideas, opinions, and lively debates. Granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda recently revealed what really goes on during the Bachchans’ family mealtime, and it’s all about “healthy discussions.”

What happens at Bachchan's dinner table?

In a conversation with journalist Barkha Dutt on Mojo Story, Navya opened up about her family’s dynamic at the dinner table. She said that while outsiders might imagine arguments or clashes, it’s actually a space for passionate conversations. “We don’t fight, it’s more like strong exchanges of ideas,” she said, explaining that everyone brings their perspective to the table, and the discussions often revolve around relevant social issues and current topics.

Navya shared that she values hearing from her grandparents, especially Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, whose life experiences offer a lens very different from her generation’s. “Their point of view always opens up something I hadn’t thought about,” she said.

According to her, the conversations between generations often spark the most interesting discussions. “They’ve lived through things we’ve only read about or seen online,” she added, noting how those stories and opinions help her see the world differently.

When asked if these talks ever turn into clashes, Navya admitted that differences of opinion are natural, especially in a family where everyone has strong viewpoints. “Anyone who’s seen our podcast knows that every episode is a debate or a disagreement,” she said with a laugh, referring to What The Hell Navya, the digital show she hosts with her mother, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, and grandmother, Jaya Bachchan.

Beyond family dinners and debates, Navya is making a mark in her own right. She is the co-founder of Aara Health, a health-tech company that focuses on women’s healthcare, and the founder of Project Naveli, a non-profit organization working to promote gender equality. Rather than stepping into films like her grandfather or uncle, Navya has chosen a business and social entrepreneurship path.

She’s also currently pursuing an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, one of India’s top management institutions. Speaking about the experience, she said it’s been challenging but deeply fulfilling, especially after returning to academics six years after completing her undergraduate studies.

Navya, the daughter of Shweta Bachchan Nanda and businessman Nikhil Nanda, and granddaughter of Indian cinema legends, is carving her own path while embracing her family’s legacy of strong opinions and social consciousness.
