Ahead of the game, Faf du Plessis was ruled out due to being unfit, and as a result, KL Rahul was chosen to open alongside Jake Fraser-McGurk.

Jake Fraser-McGurk might've departed on the fifth delivery of the game after Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bat first, but KL Rahul and Abishek Porel made the most out of the powerplay from that point. Khaleel Ahmed was on the money in the three overs he bowled during that phase, conceding just 16 runs while picking up one wicket.

Ravindra Jadeja effected a breakthrough in his first over itself, dismissing the well-set Porel on 33 (20). Noor's third was taken for 17 runs, an over after KL Rahul got to his 38th fifty in the IPL. Khaleel ended his day with a fine spell (2/25 in four overs).
