If you are also using an Android smartphone, then Google has brought another amazing security feature for you. It is being told that this feature will automatically restart your device, no-no there is no need to be afraid. This feature will restart the phone only when you do not use the phone for three consecutive days. This new feature has been added to the latest update of Google Play Services, version 25.14 and it is designed to make Android devices more secure. This feature can help you a lot when the phone is lost or stolen.
Data will remain encrypted.
Let us tell you that after restarting the device goes into the 'Before First Unlock' i.e. BFU stage which is a more secure state in which the data remains encrypted until the user enters his passcode or password. In this stage, features like fingerprint or face unlock also do not work until the main lock screen credentials are entered.
iOS-like security feature
This special feature has been designed by the company so that if someone else puts their hands on your phone, it is very difficult for them to access your data. A phone locked without being used for several days indicates that the phone is either lost or stolen. This feature of Google is somehow reminding us of a similar feature introduced by Apple in iOS 18.1, which was named Inactivity Reboot.
The facility will also be available on older Android devices.
This feature is being pushed through Google Play Service, which allows Google to release updates from Android OS upgrades. This means that most Android users will get this feature even if they are not using the latest version of Android. This update will be seen on both Android devices and tablets, but this feature will not be available on Wear OS devices like smartwatches.
However, it has also been told that the restart will happen only after three days when the device is locked all the time. So if you are using your device daily and locking and unlocking it as usual then this auto-restart will not work.
