Warning as kids out Halloween trick-or-treating find needle inside chocolate bar

Police have issued a warning after kids out trick-or-treating made the horrifying discovery of a needle hidden inside a .

A full investigation is now underway in by police after the incident on the night of in Rehden, Lower Saxony State, Germany, last Thursday. Around the children dressed up and went out trick-or-treating for a bit of light-hearted fun last week but it could have had far more serious consequences for a group of kids after a needle was put in a chocolate bar.

The kids in Rehden collected sweets and chocolates by trick-or-treating which included a Twix with the needle hidden inside. The next day, they met to sort through all the candy together and were shocked when they noticed the needle just as they were about to eat the bar.

It is understood that they first noticed that the packaging appeared strange and then they were shocked to find the dangerous object inside when they took a closer look at it. Fortunately they saw the needle in time before eating it which could have caused serious injuries.

And police have now said that this isn't a "joke" and they have appealed to the public for information on who may have given the Twix with the needle inside. A police spokesperson said: "This is not a joke, but a serious crime!"

Diepholz Police Department said in a statement: "A chocolate bar prepared with a nail or needle appeared at a school in Rehden on Friday. The chocolate bar fell open and was not eaten. If consumed, serious internal injuries could have occurred. Since Halloween was celebrated on Thursday, the origin or distributor cannot be easily traced.

"The police have begun investigations and initiated proceedings for grievous bodily harm. The police ask that all Halloween sweets, especially chocolate bars, be checked before consumption. If you have any information about the prepared chocolate bar, please contact Diepholz police."

The police are now looking for the person who distributed the candy and are investigating the case for attempted grievous bodily harm. No similar incidents have been reported.
