Peace lilies will explode in blooms if you add a cup of kitchen staple

Peace lilies, while easy to maintain, can be tricky to encourage into bloom without a proper understanding of their requirements.

They're quite undemanding, happy even in dry soil and adaptable to various lighting conditions. Yet, to see them burst into their characteristic white blooms, they need a bit more attention and care.

An intriguing tip from one plant guru suggests that rice flour could make your peace lily "explode with so many flowers". Rice is loaded with nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium, zinc, iron, and sulphur, which are all beneficial for peace lilies.

The expert shared their success on YouTube under the channel Plant Tips, with the video titled: "Amazing result, grow peace lily with one cup of rice flour, so many flowers explode."

Initially, the video presents the stunning outcome of this fertilisation hack, displaying a peace lily adorned with over nine vibrant white flowers. The expert then contrasts this with footage of the plant's previous state drooping, bloomless, and littered with dead foliage.

To achieve the transformation, the expert took the peace lily out of its pot, propagated it, and repotted it using a blend of perlite, coir, soil, rice husks, and fertiliser.

The plant guru started off by combining water with a cup of rice flour to whip up a thin mixture, which was then utilised to cleanse the leaves. Following this, the rice water concoction was poured over the plant's potting mix.

Fast forward two months, and the peace lily had sprouted two blooms and its leaves were visibly greener. The expert kept on hydrating the peace lily with the rice flour solution, even employing it in a spray bottle to mist the top of the plant. Three months down the line, the peace lily was bursting with flowers and appeared healthier than ever.

While the specialist didn't detail how frequently the peace lily was watered with the rice flour solution, it's advised to use it sparingly. Owing to the risk of starch build-up, it's best to apply rice water to your plants just once a month.

When you're not using rice water, regular tap water or rainwater should be given to them.
