Naga Munchetty calls out Charlie Stayt for 'rude' comment on BBC Breakfast

BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt didn't mince words on Friday morning after seeing clips of school lunches. During the show, Naga Munchetty enlightened viewers with findings from University College London, revealing that fussy eating might be more about genetics than parenting.

As the presenter dished out the details, a slew of school dinner shots began to roll, including one of a cheesy jacket potato. After the footage wrapped, Naga quizzed her co-host by asking: "What have you learnt from that?" Charlie replied: "Well I just saw a photo of a baked potato."

Naga probed whether the sight had whetted his appetite, however, he dismissed it, stating it looked unappealing, reports the Express. Charlie remarked: "No not really, it didn't look very appetising."

Naga was caught off guard by his blunt assessment, responding: "Ooh, a bit rude!" Charlie made no apologies as he pressed on, critiquing the meals showcased in the clips. He suggested: "What we should've had there were pictures of really lovely food shouldn't we?"

Naga tried to get him to ease up, but Charlie stood firm, clarifying that his issue was not with the jacket potato itself but rather with its excessive topping. Explaining his stance, he elaborated: "I'm just saying, I didn't particularly want one and that one didn't look very nice. I don't like them covered in slop either. People pile loads of stuff on the baked potato. Just have it simple! With a little bit of butter, perfect."

Naga didn't miss a beat to tease Charlie as the 'baked potato police', passing the baton to Sarah Keith-Lucas for the weather update. Yet, she cheekily critiqued Charlie's culinary comment, remarking: "I think Charlie that's a little bit of a boring baked potato! Sorry, just throw it all in."

Laughter from Naga echoed in the studio while Charlie could only respond with a playful "Ouch!"

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
