Viewers of were left furious with host in the latest edition of the quiz show.
Fans of the hit series branded Clive's questioning skills "very unfair" after noticing him seeming to take longer to ask one contestant his questions. Alex Thomas took to the famous seat to answer questions on his specialist subject - West Indies men's team from 1974 to the present.
He finished third out of the four contestants, but viewers feel he wasn't given a fair crack of the whip. Instead, they took to social media to fume at host Clive for his actions in the two-minute round.
On /X, one fan blasted: "His questions are way longer than the other contestants that seems a bit unfair?" The opinion was also picked up by a second user who echoed: "These Mastermind comments appear every week. They go on and on and on; just how long will these questions last for? Very unfair!"
However, it wasn't the same opinion for everyone online and others tried to defend the host. One user fired back: "Everybody's questions are the same length."
In the end, Alex lost out with 16 points. His total was just one ahead of last place Joyce, who answered questions on British aviator Amy Johnson. In second was Alan, whose specialist subject was James Bond books of Ian Fleming. In total, he scored 21 points.
The winner was Olivia who scored an impressive 24 points within the timeframe. Her subject of choice was the rock band New Order. In winning, she booked herself a place in the semi-finals of the quiz show.
This week's controversy is far from the first incident fans have been unhappy at. There has also been emotional content recently, with fans claiming they couldn't "deal" with last week's episode as a contestant to his late wife.
In a gripping contest, Kaushik, Rachel, Laura, and John battled it out with specialist subjects ranging from the detective tales of Sherlock Holmes to the political drama of The West Wing, and even the legendary racehorse Red Rum. But it was John who touched the heart of viewers.
The school administrator whose expertise on Red Rum was put to the test, revealed his late wife had been the one to push him to go on the show. He confessed: "Never in my wildest dreams would I ever think I'd be standing here."
Host lauded John's performance, saying: "You've done it, you've got 24 points." John replied, emotionally: "I was very much instructed by my wife to apply. And if you knew Caroline, you wouldn't have any doubt that I duly applied. But it was sad, my darling wife Caroline unfortunately died as the show was about to be made. So this one is for you, Caro."
