Former One Direction singer Liam Payne has tragically died aged 31 after falling from the third floor of a hotel building in the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires.

The former star had been holidaying with his girlfriend, . Hours before the news of his tragic death, , showing Liam sharing his food and detailing plans to play polo. He also filmed his girlfriend as they ate breakfast together.

Liam Payne was known for being one fifth of the mega-band . In 2011, he found fame when X Factor judge placed him in a band with Louis Tomlinson, , Zayn Malik and Niall Horan.

Weeks before his death, the pop star took to to share a photo alongside his former bandmates in what turned out to be his final post, paying tribute to American documentary filmmaker, writer and TV producer Morgan Spurlock.

Both celebs and friends of Liam Payne have paid tribute to the former hit-maker. Olly Murs, who starred on The X Factor a year before One Direction, said he was "lost for words".

"We always had a good laugh when we saw each other, sometimes the catch ups were only short and sweet but when we did it was mostly about how annoyingly good his hair always looked, or our love for Becks, the old XF (X Factor) days and the tour we shared together,” Murs wrote beside a picture of the pair.

X Factor host for the show: “I remember him as a 14-year-old turning up to audition on The X Factor, and blowing us away singing Sinatra. He just loved to sing,” he wrote.

“He was always a joy, had time for everyone, polite, grateful, and was always humble.”

Former school friend John Carpenter said he was distraught by the singer's death. John said Liam was his “first friend” and jokingly asked him to be his bodyguard after appearing on X Factor. Recalling their last conversation, John said: “I told him, ‘I wish you absolutely the very best but please don’t lose your head. Stay grounded and remember our time at St Peter’s wherever you go’.”

Liam Payne is survived by his 7-year-old son Bear, his parents, and his two older sisters.
