Jordan Spieth's 2024 earnings eclipsed by Scottie Scheffler's millionaire caddie

Send Push

Scottie Scheffler’s caddie has earned more than three-time major winner Jordan Spieth in 2024.

The world number one has enjoyed an incredibly lucrative year, claiming a second Masters title and taking the FedEx Cup, which alone saw him scooper an incredible £19m. In between, the 28-year-old landed a host of PGA Tour titles and top-10 finishes.

Added up, Scheffler has earned a whopping £47million. That works out at an average of £2.5million per tournament, £628,000 per round and £9,000 per shot. Bagman Ted Scott has been handsomely remunerated as a result. A typical arrangement will see a caddie earn 10% of their player’s victory prize, 7% for a top 10 and 5% for anything below.

Even before Scheffler won the FedEx Cup, Scott had earned just over £2million this year. That would have placed him 58th on the PGA Tour players’ money list, with some illustrious names further down the list, including Spieth and Rickie Fowler.

Spieth, who has won all the majors apart from the USPGA Championship, has admittedly been struggling with injury over the last year-and-a-half and recently had an operation on his wrist, although he has continued to play. In a recent social media announcement, he said he was hoping to be back to his best in 2025.

Given the eye-watering figures involved, Scheffler employs people to manage his financial affairs. On his arrangement with Scott, the 28-year-old told the “We have a girl that helps us pay bills basically because I’m a child and I can’t keep track of all that stuff!

“She quickly took over that job and texts me at the end of each week, saying, 'Hey, this is how much we’re paying Ted'. I’m like, 'That’s great'.”

Scott was Bubba Watson’s bagman for 15 years before teaming up. The pair already knew each other having attended the same bible study group.

Scheffler has said his caddie's religious beliefs were an important factor in his decision to hire him. He once explained: “I just think the world of him as a person so that was why I was attracted to him just being a potential good partner for me out on the course. I really want to work with a Christian. That’s how I try to live my life.”
