Flight attendant refuses popular drink on plane due to 'disgusting' reason

Enjoying snacks and beverages on a plane is one of life's simple joys, but there's one particular drink that experts strongly advise against ordering during a flight.

If it's a canned or bottled beverage like a soft drink, wine, or beer, you're in the clear. However, anything that requires the use of water stored on the plane should be strictly avoided, warns TikTok influencer Kat Kamalani.

Kat, who claims to have spent six years working for "one of the biggest airlines you could possibly imagine," says she would never dream of ordering coffee or tea while airborne.

In addition to this, the ex-flight attendant also claims coffee machines are “rarely cleaned unless they are broken”, and that the drinks are made "by the lavatories.”

Moreover, according to Kat, the coffee machines are infrequently cleaned and the water source is often located right next to the toilets, reports the Express.

A 2019 study examining the water quality on airlines ranked 11 major and 12 American regional airlines. It found that they all used the same water source as the bathroom.

However, if you see the water being poured from a bottle, it's perfectly safe to drink - and you should drink as much as you can.

If you spot flight attendants serving water from anything but a sealed bottle or can, it might be wise to politely refuse.

"Sometimes, on flights, we would run out of bottled water," ex-flight attendant Sue Fogwell revealed to Travel and Leisure. "If you see a pitcher of water on the beverage cart in economy class, skip it - it's from the water tank. Ask for a can of seltzer water."
