It's not entirely clear if Gail dies or not, but there's every chance she will survive her brush with death. A synopsis for Sunday's extra episode, with it not being aired on Friday evening, reveals she is still in hospital with no real news on her recovery.

Her worried family gather at her bedside, while nothing more is said about Gail for the rest of the week. That said, Corrie boss Iain MacLeod recently claimed Gail would have a happy ending and would not be killed off.

There's also reports about her exit storyline seeing her wed once more amid her romance with Jesse. Could all of this be a red herring, or can we assume Gail is going to live through her latest ordeal?

Why is Gail leaving the show?

Gail is likely leaving the show for a fresh start after five decades of drama. The real reason for Gail's exit is that actress Helen has decided to leave the show after 50 years.

Helen said of her exit: "This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the . I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.

“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew. The past 50 years have flown by and I don't think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”
