Premier League David Coote could be facing severe penalties from the FA following the launch of an investigation into a leaked video where he allegedly used derogatory language against

The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, reportedly shows Coote using offensive language

He also criticised Liverpool as a team during a match he was officiating. while they conduct their own investigation. Despite not remembering the incident, Coote has taken responsibility for his actions. However, he may also face repercussions from the FA.

According to , the Football Association has initiated its own investigation. It is suggested that Coote could be charged with an "aggravated breach" of rules, which includes references, whether explicit or implied, to race, colour, ethnic origin, or nationality.

An FA spokesperson stated: "We are aware of the matter, and we are investigating." Even though the video is believed to have been filmed several years ago and was never intended for public viewing, this would not prevent the FA from taking action.

As the investigation into referee David Coote continues, his former colleague Peter Walton has come to his defence. Speaking with The Times, Walton described Coote as uncharacteristically captured in the controversial video, saying: "There are some Premier League referees I consider more loose-lipped, and more laddish in their behaviour away from the public spotlight.

"David is not one of them. I would have described him as captain sensible, maybe a bit highly-strung at times, and not one of the lads.

"Unlike some referees, you rarely see him laughing and joking with players during matches - he is generally very straight-laced. I look at the video and wonder if part of the problem is that he is trying to be someone he is not."

Coote's latest match was Liverpool's 2-0 win over Aston Villa, where his decisions were already under scrutiny. Liverpool legend John Aldridge, writing for the Liverpool Echo, criticised Coote's performance: "Even before the footage emerged, there were question marks against some of Coote's decision-making in Liverpool's win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

"It's scary that he seems to not think it was a foul from Bailey on Salah on Saturday. Surely it should be a sending off? He's the last man."
