Real got back to winning ways this week with a 4-0 victory vs Osasuna. Mbappe again played the full 90 minutes but failed to register a goal or an assist.
Speaking ahead of the game, manager Carlo Ancelotti admitted that Mbappe was ‘down’ over his current form. "Mbappe is down like everyone else, but motivated to get through this moment," he said.
"The problem he's having is everyone's problem. You could point at Vinicius [Junior], Rodrygo or [Jude] Bellingham. It is a difficult moment for everyone."
If his poor form continues, then questions could potentially start over if his future lies at the Bernabeu. It’s something that could prompt Chelsea to reignite their interest.
In the summer of 2023, reported that Chelsea were one of the clubs showing an interest in buying Mbappe from PSG. It added that the club were ‘formalising inquiries’ on his availability.
The Frenchman ended up staying at PSG until the end of his contract before moving to Real Madrid. But if there is any chance of his being available again, then it could give Chelsea the chance to firm up their interest again.
Since his takeover of the club, has not been shy in spending money in the transfer window. But Mbappe wouldn’t come cheap, in terms of any potential transfer fee as well as wages.
Chelsea were on the lookout for another striker in the summer, but ’s form under so far this season has reduced that need. The Blues may still look to that position when the January window opens, or in future windows.
If Mbappe's struggles at Real Madrid continue, then he could be a surprise option. It’s a signing that will certainly catch the eyes of both fans and opponents.
