But Arsenal boss Arteta didn't seem interested in playing down his side's chances. In fact, the Spaniard insisted that the only success his side can achieve in the Champions League this season is winning it.
"Success, I think, at this level is actually to win it [the Champions League]," Arteta said back in September. "But we made some bigger steps [last season], I think. We learn a lot from the experience. I'm extremely motivated. It's a competition that we love playing, every player loves playing, and here we are again.
"We had some great moments, some other moments that we have to do better and improve. We have to put those learnings into this season. Before, you have to prepare for three games, now eight. After facing Inter this week, Arsenal will visit Sporting CP, who by that point will be without Manchester United-bound Ruben Amorim. After that, they'll take on Monaco and Dinamo Zagreb at the Emirates Stadium before rounding the league phase off with an away clash against Girona.
