CISF Jawan, Accomplice Held For Smuggling Gold Hidden In Socks At Mumbai Airport

Investigations by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs that had recently busted a gold smuggling syndicate and had arrested two persons, including a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel for allegedly being part of the syndicate has revealed that they had successfully smuggled gold at least three to four times in the past. The probe also revealed that they would smuggle gold in socks.

According to the Customs sources, on the night duty of 07/08-05-2025 one Byculla resident M.R.H. Ansari was intercepted at a parking area at level P3 west side of CSMI Airport, Mumbai on the specific intelligence. Thereafter the officers asked him if he has any contraband item or any gold/dutiable item or any item which has been handed over to him by any passenger or staff, to which he admitted that he received one packet containing gold valued at Rs 57 lakh, from one of the CISF personnel, A. Dhale, a Kharghar resident, for delivering the same outside the airport.

On the basis of the statement of Ansari, CISF official A. Dhale, was summoned and in his questioning he confessed his involvement with Ansari in aiding and abetting of the smuggling activity currently and on previous occasions also. He admitted that he attempted this act for monetary benefits.

"Further both the accused admitted their involvement in aiding and abetting of the smuggling activity twice in a day on May 07. They said they had concealed gold in socks. They also confirmed that they have earlier done the same act of smuggling gold three to four times in the past few days. Investigation conducted so far has indicated that a larger syndicate may be involved in the smuggling of the seized gold. The details of the accomplices of the accused, are yet to be ascertained. Persistent efforts are on to get the details of these accomplices," said a Customs official.
